Born in Tamale, a city in northern Ghana, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was a hit at the Tamale Utrecht Football Academy, Utrecht FC's hometown academy. His performances impressed Steadfast FC's managers, who recruited him in 2019. Two impressive seasons, culminating in victory in the African Under-20 Nations Cup and the award for best player of the competition, led Fatawu to join Dreams FC, a club that had followed him for several years.
Capped by Ghana's senior team since 2021, he said that the Ghanaians believed in him a lot and that's why they gave him opportunities very early on. At the age of 18 he signed for five seasons with Sporting CP, showing true happiness for the huge step in his career.
