João Virgínia hails from Faro and, as with most kids that play football, he wanted to score goals. When he signed for FC Ferreiras, he did so already with the intention of preventing them as he was intent on becoming a goalkeeper. Even still, he would take any opportunity to play as a striker. Although it was in goal that he stood out. Having signed for SL Benfica at age 11, he left the comforts of living at home with his parents and did so with determination. A Portuguese international for every single youth category, he was present in the final stages of the Euros as an under-17, under-19, under-21 and also at the under-20s World Cup having won two European Championships in 2016 (under-17s) and 2018 (under-19s).

He played for Arsenal and now signs for Sporting CP on a loan from Everton FC where he made his Premier League debut last season. Now wearing the famous lion's jersey, he announced he is extremely happy to sign for Sporting and return to Portugal and vows to give it his all for the green and white.
