The coach expresses satisfaction with the win over Boavista FC
João Pereira talked about his side's return to winning ways against Boavista FC, and believed Sporting CP were well deserving of the 3-2 victory at home.
"This victory wasn't one to gain confidence, but it helped a lot because today the most important thing was the three points and getting out of this negative run of defeats", he began by saying.
"We started the game well again, scoring goals and creating lots of opportunities. We could have gone into halftime much further ahead. We conceded a goal, we reacted, we conceded again and we reacted again. This is due to the fantastic work of these players, who are playing every three days, who have a lot of minutes in their legs and a lot of tiredness, but they never give up".
"For me, this game convinces me because of their attitude, because of everything they did, and I don't think it was an evenly matched game. If we look at possession, scoring opportunities, etc., we were completely superior to them in everything. It's true that Boavista FC managed to score with their first shot, but Sporting CP's control of the game was absolute, just with taking our foot off the gas in the last 20 minutes due to the players' fatigue. They wanted to do more, but their legs started to feel heavy. Therefore, the important thing now is recovery, but it was an important victory for us and for our future".
Pereira insisted that "we had total control of the game. Losing possession is part of the game, we have to be able to recover them. It's all a process, but I'm happy with the performance because I think today the players were at a Sporting CP level".
"The Sportinguistas can expect the maximum work from the entire structure for us to continue winning games. I didn't notice any uneasiness in them, I felt their support from the first to the last minute. Together, everything becomes easier".
